Marking the publication of a new anthology entitled Best European Fiction 2010, which brings together newly translated stories from 32 European nations including Austrian writer Antonio Fian, this 2-part program at London’s South Bank Centre is held in association with Dalkey Archive and the English PEN Society. The first part presents a panel of well-known English-language writers (A.S. Byatt, Tom McCarthy, and Aleksandar Hemon) discussing the state of European fiction, while the second part is a reading of anthology participants: Andrej Blatnik, Jon Fosse and Christine Montalbetti bring their stories from Slovenia, Norway and France. United by their experimentation, wit and iconoclasm, these are stories which reflect a new transnational culture in an
old and historically crowded continent.
