Comparing worlds: Mahler and Sibelius

  • Sun 29 Nov 2015
  • 11:00AM

The study day will reconsider the relationship between the two composers' musical worlds, drawing on issues now more frequently encountered in musicological discussion of the European symphony (like 'narrative', 'national identity', 'landscape' and 'voice').

Peter Franklin, who retired as Professor of Music at the University of Oxford in September 2014, writes on early twentieth century opera and music in film as well as on Mahler and Sibelius.  His Mahler work includes two Cambridge University Press books:  Mahler. Symphony no. 3 and The Life of Mahler.

This is a ticketed event; to book please email info@mahlersociety.org; www.mahlersociety.org
