To mark the 50th anniversary of Austrian actor Peter Lorre’s death, the ACF will screen two of his most famous films: Der Verlorene (The Lost One) and Fritz Lang's M.

We begin with Der Verlorene (The Lost One). This was the only film Lorre wrote, directed and starred in. The noir German-language film is based on the true story of Dr Rothe, a German scientist working for the Nazis during WWII who murders his fiancée after discovering that she is selling secrets to the allies. The crime is covered up by the Nazis, however, following the war Roth is overwhelmed by the guilt of his wartime crimes. The Lorre double bill will be presented by Synema (Brigitte Mayr and Michael Omasta) who have produced a publication about the actor and filmmaker.

In German with English subtitles.
