The ACF London presents a special double bill of films by Austrian filmmaker Hans Weingartner.  Born 1970 in Feldkirch, Voralberg, Austria, Weingartner is a well respected Austrian author, director and producer of films. He attended the Austrian Association of Cinematography and earned a diploma as a camera assistant.  After several years of practical experience he completed a postgraduate degree at the Academy of Media Arts KHM in Cologne, Germany.  He has also studied neuroscience at the University of Vienna and graduated from the neurosurgical department at the Free University of Berlin’s Steglitz Clinic.

This is the story of Martin, a once successful mathematician who suffers a mental breakdown. Following his release from a mental hospital Martin ends up living on the streets, where he meets Viktor, a 10-year-old Russian boy. They attempt to create a new life together by building a small cabin in the woods. Their daily struggle for survival creates a strong bond between them until the hut is suddenly destroyed. Martin is readmitted to hospital and told that the boy was simply a figment of his imagination, a result of his mental illness.  However, Martin refuses to believe that the friendship was an illusion and sets out on a to discover the truth.
