Digital Society. Open Society?

  • Tue 26 Mar 2019
  • 6:30PM
Club Alpbach London, the UCL History of Arts Society and the Austrian Cultural Forum London are excited to announce the second event of our Artist in Residence series.

Join us for a riveting discussion on digitalisation and its effect on the constitution of a democratic society.

The event will take place at the Austrian Embassy and the Ambassador, Dr. Michael Zimmermann, will give a welcoming address and generously invites all attendants to a reception after the talk.

From populist echo-chambers on social media to digital e-commerce, there remains no field, industry, concept or theory untouched by the digital era. As a result of this, we are forced to re-think both the challenges and dangers these developments bear for the meaning of Karl Popper’s notion of the Open Society. In an attempt to approach this complex multi-facetted subject in a productive manner, we turn to the arts and its treatment of the digital to create space for a critical dialogue.

Speakers include:

Flora Ogilvy, founder Arteviste
Anna Skladmann, artist
Gustav Hagild, student and artist
Angelo Martelli, Associate Professor LSE
