Senate House Library presents a display of correspondence between exiled writers and their translators with examples from speeches, novels, poems and letters that highlight the anguish of their predicament in exile whilst underscoring the warmth and innocence of friendship which is based on a shared love of language. Writers include among others the Austrian novelist, playwright and poet Franz Werfel (1890 – 1945) who died in exile in Los Angeles.
