Frieze Projects at the Frieze Art Fair

  • 17 Oct 2013 — 20 Oct 2013

For Frieze Projects 2013, artist Josef Strau presents a new series of his ‘Letter Tunnels’, located around the Frieze Projects space. The public is invited to sit on and crawl into these letter-shaped display architectures, within which a variety of objects, as well as texts and audio installations, are placed for fair-goers to discover. The series was conceived by the artist as ‘an architectural translation of textual narratives transmitted through sound and voice’, originally inspired by the architecture of Malmö Konsthall where the artist exhibited in 2008: ‘the main space was divided by art fair-like partition walls, which formed letters, if looked at from above’.

Josef Strau (b. 1957, Austria) is an artist and writer who lives and works in New York and Berlin. Strau’s recent shows include: Green Naftali, New York (2012); Generali Foundation, Vienna, Austria; dépendance, Brussels (2010); House of Gaga, Mexico City (2010); Pro Choice, Wien (2010); Daniel Bucholz, Berlin (2009); Vilma Gold, London (2008); Malmö Konsthall (2008).
