All major composers create their own characteristic ‘world of sound’, something we can recognise easily and immediately. That of Gustav Mahler is especially distinctive; he seems to have been endowed with an exceptional feeling for instrumental colour and nuance, which was then refined and intensified by his experience as a conductor.

Gwyn Parry-Jones will be exploring this idea in a fascinating study day. Gwyn has a rich and varied background in music as performer, teacher and academic. As an orchestral performer, Gwyn has appeared with many of Britain’s top orchestras, playing under the batons of great conductors such as Sir John Barbirolli, Carlo Maria Giulini and Simon Rattle.
