The ACF London presents the first UK solo exhibition of established Austrian media artist Hubert Blanz. He creates intricate photographic manipulations as well as video and sound compositions. During a 2012 residency in London, Blanz developed works exploring the complex urban situation in the British capital. Building on his long-held fascination with mega cities, these works focus on urban infrastructure, spatial grids and geographic as well as virtual networks in photographs and video installations.

This exhibition showcases the series Homeseekers inspired by the artist’s interest in brick buildings and his response to the London’s complex housing situation. By systematically exploring London’s boroughs by foot, Blanz documented building facades, in over two thousand photographs. Noting in the course of his photographic research that most houses in London have closed end-of-terrace and rear-facades without windows or doors, he began to view them as abstract surfaces as they appear in children’s drawings.

Blanz, born in 1969 in Hindelang Germany, has lived and worked in Vienna since studying at the University of Applied Arts in 1993.
