Michael White presents a masterclass with Chen Reiss

  • Thu 4 Dec 2014

The ACF welcomes back soprano Chen Reiss for a special concert and masterclass with selected voice students from London music colleges. An afternoon masterclass (4 – 6pm) will be followed by an evening masterclass cum-concert at 7pm. Both events are open to the public. Audience members are welcome to attend the entire programme or just one part of it. Introducing both events and giving commentaries will be the British critic and broadcaster Michael White.

It isn’t often that the Austrian Cultural Forum London plays host to a major opera star. But on 4 December we welcome the soprano Chen Reiss for two linked events that promise to be a highlight of the season: an afternoon master class from 4pm to 6pm, with selected voice students from the London music colleges, followed by an evening masterclass-cum-concert, with the same students, from 7pm to 8.30pm. Both events are fully open to the public. Audience members are welcome to attend the entire programme or just one part of it. And refreshments will be served between the afternoon and evening sessions.

Chen Reiss will be flying in straight from Vienna were she’ll have just finished a run of Staatsoper performances as Ilia in Kasper Holten’s new production of Idomeneo and Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier. During the past year, also at the Staatsoper, she sang the title role in Cunning Little Vixen. Working with conductors like Barenboim, Thielemann, Levine and Mehta, she has sung other leading roles at the Bayerische Staatsoper Opera Munich, La Scala Milan, Semperoper Dresden, and Theatre des Champs-Elysees Paris, and appeared in concert with the Berlin Philharmonic, Concertgebouw, Orchestre de Paris, and BBC Symphony Orchestra. Her solo album Liasons won a Diapason d’Or. And her most recent release is a recital disc with pianist Charles Spencer, Le Rossignol et la Rose, for Onyx. All of which reveals her status as an artist.

Playing for these ACF events is one of Austria’s most eminent pedagogues, Cordelia Höfer-Teutsch, Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at the Mozarteum Salzburg since 2002. Equally distinguished as a performer, she has enjoyed long-term collaborations with members of the Berlin Philharmonic and plays regularly for the Philharmonisches Salon, the highly successful chamber music programme of the Berlin Philharmonic Concert Series.

Introducing both events and giving commentaries will be the British critic and broadcaster Michael White. Although admission is free, we suggest early booking to ensure a seat.
