Mozart & Salieri as part of Grimborne 2016

  • 9 Aug 2016 — 13 Aug 2016

After an acclaimed run in London and Vienna, Time Zone Theatre brings their production of Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov’s opera MOZART & SALIERI to the Arcola Theatre as part of Grimeborn 2016.

“Villainy and genius can never be compatible?“ The opera follows the apocryphal legend that Antonio Salieri poisoned his rival Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart out of jealousy over his talent. Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky Korsakov (1844-1908) used the short story Mozart and Salieri by Alexander Pushkin as libretto, which also served Peter Shaffer as inspiration for his famous stage play and film Amadeus.

In a new English translation and staged by an award-winning team around stage director Pamela Schermann and musical director Andrew Charity (MD of the OLIVIER-award winning production of La Boheme in 2011), this innovative take on Rimsky-Korsakov’s masterpiece captivates its audience, making us witnesses, if not conspirators, of Salieri’s plan to poison Mozart.
