Given the context of sustainability, lighting is being radically reconsidered and a major challenge for designers as well as an important issue for the public. Growing concern over energy use and changes in legislation provide an opportunity for a captivating exploration of creativity in new lighting design as well as exploring the significance of psychological and emotional issues around light and lighting. After all, radical change should be an opportunity to revalue lighting more fundamentally, explore its meaning and how we use it practically and sustainably as well as pleasurably, now and in the future. Designers Rachel Wingfield and Mathias Gmachl will represent Austria with work created by their London-based design and research studio Loop.pH. Through their work Loop.pH aim to bridge the gap between design and the natural sciences. The exhibition is held as part of the London Design Festival 2009.
