With musical guests: radio.string.quartet.vienna
Joe Zawinul (1932–2007) was probably one of the most important figures in European jazz history. He worked with many famous jazz musicians including Ben Webster and Dinah Washington and composed for the likes of the Cannonball Adderley group and Miles Davis. With his group Weather Report he continuously topped the jazz polls, and had one major pop hit with a tune called Birdland. They sold in excess of 6 million records worldwide. To coincide with the publication of a new edition of his biography of the jazzman, Brian Glasser will talk about Zawinul’s life and music, with musical illustrations and film clips.
The radio.string.quartet.vienna will perform their own arrangements of some of Zawinul’s most famous pieces.
