Following 2015's programme of collaboration between young UK and Austrian composers, Soundings culminates with an exciting musical performance from RCM musicians and renowned performers including Sarah Dacey (soprano), Mary Dullea (piano), Darragh Morgan (conductor), Christopher Redgate (oboe), Rowland Sutherland (flute), Max Welford (clarinet). Once again, works by all participating Soundings composers will be performed: Seán Clancy, Christian Mason, and Kate Whitley from the UK, and Mirela Ivičević, Hannes Kerschbaumer, and Daniel Moser from Austria.
The concert will be preceded by a panel discussion (6.15pm-7pm). The panel discussion will question the role of contemporary music in the traditional concert programme, stand-alone new music programmes and the programming of new works by emerging composers alongside established names in contemporary music. With Michelle Castelletti (Artistic Director: Malta International Arts Festival; Artistic Director: RNCM), Mary Dullea (pianist, Soundings curator), Richard Heason (Director: St. John's Smith Square), and Graham McKenzie (Artistic Director: Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival)
Kate Whitley 5 tiny piano pieces (solo piano)
