Empire and the German-Speaking World of Today

7 – 9 July 2010 | Leeds University

This conference, co-organised by Professor Frank Finlay (Leeds) and Professor Julian Preece (Swansea), will discuss and investigate among other topics the legacies of colonialism, the imperial idea of Central Europe (Habsburg, Hohenzollern, Ottoman, Romanov), imperial encounters in contemporary travel writing, Third Reich imperialism, transformation and memory in the postcolonial world.

Keynote speakers include Dr. Andrea Strohmaier (Graz), Professor Michael Hoffmann (Paderborn) and Professor Dirk Götsch (Nottingham).
