Sound Park Austria is a platform created by the Austrian Cultural Forum to support intelligent and artistically ambitious Austrian pop acts in a difficult climate where it is getting harder and harder to make music pay its own way. In the online age, non-commercial pop music has moved from local scenes into global niches. At the same time the revenue from recorded music has collapsed and performance fees at the lower end of the spectrum have dwindled, while travel costs keep rising.
The strategy, therefore, is to help Austrian artists to play concerts that will expose them to a live audience they might otherwise not reach. Rather than put on concerts of our own, Sound Park Austria aims to enable Austrian acts to join the bill at concerts or festivals that will attract a local audience and receive attention in the UK media.
Our curator Robert Rotifer's role is to link up promoters and Austrian artists.
Our perfect main media partner in Austria is FM4 Soundpark, an initiative by national radio station FM4 (part of Austria's public broadcasting corporation ORF) to promote Austrian artists.
Wherever possible, Sound Park Austria concerts will be featured on air and online via FM4 to provide some welcome publicity back home as well.
This page will feature updates on upcoming as well as reviews on Sound Park Austria events, so do come back!
