Southbank Centre's Art by Post launched in May 2020 to provide free creative activities to people across the UK at risk of social isolation, loneliness and digital exclusion. The project commissioned 17 artists to make 11 activity booklets that were sent to over 4500 participants! Over 600 responses have been received.
This exhibition features a selection of responses alongside work by professional artists involved in the project including Austrian based artists Maruša Sagadin who has contributed sculptural furniture. These horizontal sculptures are structures for supporting rest and creativity. Her forms reference abstracted body parts - breasts, a belly, legs, feet - bringing back the focus to the body and how we care for it.
This exhibition demonstrates how an extraordinary and vibrant community of people came together in a time of crisis.
