Divine Inspiration – Schubert & Beethoven

  • Thu 12 Sep 2019
  • 7:30PM

The BSO present a trio of masterpieces inspired by greatness and created by two of the best-known names in classical music’s hall of fame. Schubert’s Overture in D, alternately titled ‘Overture for Orchestra in D Major “in the Italian Style”’ will be followed by two of Beethoven’s masterworks, his violin concerto and his Symphony No.4.

Schubert’s Italian influences are evident throughout this concert’s opening piece, drawing as it does from the rapid rise in popularity of Rossini in Vienna during that time. It’s majestic and visionary depictions of Italy’s gorgeous landscapes are matched in evocative beauty by the piece that follows, as Beethoven used his only violin concerto to capture the intense skill required to play the instrument to a high standard. The concert then concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No.4, judged by fellow composer Hector Berlioz to be so great as to be the work of the Archangel Michael, rather than that of a human.

These three pieces of substantial beauty and influence will be performed by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Classic FM’s Orchestra in the South of England and conducted by the BSO’s Leverhulme Young Conductor In Association Marta Gardolinska. Beethoven’s Violin Concerto will be performed by Daniel Auner, a multi award-winning Violinist judged by The Strad to be “technically impeccable” in a performance last Spring.
