Contrast - on light and shade
The Austria-based accio piano trio presents a programme exploring the theme of contrast -between light and shadow, color and form, major and minor, folk tunes and art music. Alongside timeless Viennese masters like Haydn and Schubert, the concert also highlights the next generation of Austrian composers - represented by Viennese-born Noëmi Haffner (b. 1999) with her atmospheric piece Lichter und Farben, playing with exotic ambiances as well as modern sound effects.
The concert begins with Haydn's Piano Trio in E minor, which perfectly demonstrates the versatile composer's revolutionary possibilities of dynamics on what would have been a new fortepiano instrument. The piece is also characterised by the contrast of sombre melancholy and sanguine joy. The trio end their programme with Schubert’s famous Trio in E flat demonstrating the antagonism between light and dark - an epic work of exceptional beauty, but also an emotional rollercoaster from naive “Ländler” idyll to profound “Lied” romanticism, from heroic pride to deadly grief. Especially in the funereal second movement (c minor), tracing back to a Swedish folk song, it seems as if Schubert already sensed the proximity of his own death.
Founded in 2013 at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, the accio piano trio has been making music together for more than a decade, performing in Austria, Europe and Asia. With a great passion for chamber music, they strive to create unique musical experiences that evoke images, emotions and memories in their audience. The ensemble’s repertoire focuses on Viennese Classicism, New Music by young Austrian composers, and rarely performed works, especially by female composers.
