One of the pioneers of European Modern architecture, Adolf Loos (1870–1933), is best known for his important projects realised in Vienna including the Goldmann & Salatsch building on Michaelerplatz, the Café Museum and a series of modernist villas through the interiors of which he advised his clients about ‘learning to dwell.’

The Czech Centre, ACF London and the Royal Institute of British Architects Trust are pleased to present this exhibition on Adolf Loos’s work. The exhibition, originated by the City of Prague Museum, has travelled from Loos’s Moravian birthplace of Brno to the Bohemian cities of Pilsen and Prague.

The exhibition highlights the rich interiors of his buildings and features drawings, models, original furniture and glass. In London the exhibition will showcase material from the collections of the Royal Institute of British Architects whose Library helped save the Adolf Loos Archive, now in the Albertina. Loos’s literary executor, the Austrian art historian Ludwig Münz, brought the archive to London in 1938. A special display of RIBA-held photographs of Loos’s buildings in Austria and France as well as Loos’s polemical books and documents will be available to view.
