BFI London Film Festival 2023

  • 4 Oct 2023 — 15 Oct 2023

The London Film Festival is back, and this year, we're yet again delighted to present an exciting lineup of Austrian films. London, a city that has always embraced diversity and creativity serves as the perfect backdrop for this cinematic extravaganza. Keep an eye out for the best of Austrian cinema which includes contributions from the following filmmakers:

The Klezmer Project; Directed by Leandro Koch and Paloma Schachmann // Austria-Argentina // 2023

In their charmingly ambitious debut feature film, third generation Argentine-Jewish filmmakers Koch and Schachmann step into fictionalised portrayals of their own lives. This captivating work explores themes of Jewish history and identity in an imaginative and lighthearted manner. The film's final scene, which showcases a Moldovan village wedding, serves as a profoundly heartwarming representation of the transformative influence of communal music-making.

Europa; Directed by Sudabeh Mortezai // Austria-UK // 2023

Employed by an enigmatic organisation that operates beyond the confines of governments and societal norms, Beate's unwavering drive and sense of entitlement are challenged when she crosses paths with a proud Albanian community. Following Mortezai’s previous film "Joy," her latest work also features a remarkable cast, leverages breathtaking landscapes and pastoral customs to highlight the disconnect between citizens and the free market.
