Mahan Mirarab's album, "Say Your Most Beautiful Word," blends European chamber music, contemporary jazz, and Iranian classical music into an honest expression. Through seven pieces, Mirarab, along with a talented sextet, reinterprets Persian traditions. Tracks like "Beginning" explore minimalist improvisations inspired by Forugh Farrochzad's poetry, while "Taboo Ata" challenges Iranian rhythmic-harmonic conventions. The album, including the title track "Say Your Most Beautiful Word," reflects Mirarab's call for open emotional expression. Other pieces like "A Chant of Praise," "Invisible," and "Not In My World" offer diverse musical journeys, ranging from gratitude ceremonies to structural jazz, all culminating in a dreamlike finale inspired by director Jacqueline Kornmüller's work.
