The ACF in cooperation with Synema celebrates the life and career of photographer and cameraman Wolf Suschitzky with a special evening featuring an exhibition private view, the launch of a new catalogue of his work, the screening of a 30min documentary about his life and career and a Cineclub screening of the film Entertaining Mr. Sloane.

Wolfgang Suschitzky, born in Vienna in 1912, is a photographer and cameraman who, as both a person and an artist, is an eye witness to the twentieth century. In 1934, faced with the coming into power of “Austro-Fascism”, he emigrated to Amsterdam and then on to London the following year. Great Britain has been his home ever since. During his career, which has spanned more than half a century, Suschitzky collaborated as a cameraman on some 200 documentary and feature films – his credits ranging from the Animal Zoo films of the late 1930s up to the art-house daring of Ulysses (1967) and the gangster classic Get Carter (1971).

This photo exhibition presents rare, behind-the-scenes shots from Wolf Suschitzky’s films, as well as unpublished portraits of directors, actors and actresses with whom “Su” has worked: Paul Rotha, Michael Gough, Virginia McKenna, Harry Watt, Mike Hodges, Sir Michael Caine, Dame Diana Rigg, Vincent Price, Trevor Howard and Dame Celia Johnson. The catalogue was edited by Michael Omasta, Brigitte Mayr, Ursula Seeber and published by SYNEMA.
