Piano Recital: Hanna Bachmann

  • Tue 23 Apr 2024

We're thrilled to announce the return of the talented Austrian pianist Hanna Bachmann to London for an evening recital, where she will be performing Fanny Hensel's collection of compositions titled 'The Year'.

‘The Year’ was inspired by a long-awaited journey to Italy in 1839/1840, after which she composed a set of 12 pieces dedicated to the months of the year. The older sister of Felix Mendelssohn, she sought to connect art and literature: illustrations and poems were released with the scores in their first edition. Bringing this to modern day audiences, the renowned artist Christian Stl from South Tyrol has painted a painting for each month, inspired by both the music and the poems, which will be shown during Hanna Bachmann’s performance. Her all-female-composers programme also includes works by the English composer Ethel Smyth, Czech composer Vítězslava Kaprálová and a recent composition for Hanna by Austrian composer Gerda Poppa. Described as ‘a mature personality at the piano’ by the chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Kirill Petrenko, Hanna Bachmann has established herself as an internationally recognised pianist, and it is a delight to finally welcome her to KCMS after her planned recital in our 2020-21 season was sadly cancelled.
