12th International Chamber Music Competition 2025: Franz Schubert und die Musik der Moderne

Entry deadline: 27 March 2024

On the occasion of the 12th International Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” 2025, a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions and the Alink-Argerich Foundation, contemporary compositions for Trio for Piano, Violin and Violoncello (Piano Trio) are sought. The primary aim of this competition is to encourage the creation of new works for this chamber music category. The prizewinning work will be on the programme of the above-mentioned competition in February 2025 as a compulsory piece in the category Piano Trio and will be premiered and performed several times.
The competition is open to the public and invites composers from all nations and stateless persons to apply.

This triennial chamber music competition is held in three categories: Lied (evaluated as a duo) and Piano Trio and this time also Piano Duo as a new category. The artistic board consists of Joseph Breinl, Chia Chou and Sivan-Silver-Garburg & Gil Garburg under the chair of Rector Georg Schulz.

An essential and internationally unique element of this competition is to compare contemporary music with the works of Schubert on an equal footing and equal value. The challenge of seriously dealing with modernity is an important incentive for young musicians to connect to today. Top-class and internationally recognized jurors face this ambitious challenge and, with their qualified feedback, contribute to making this competition a significant milestone in the artistic development of the participants. Another key element is our commitment to designing this competition to be as relevant to participants’ profession and future as possible: it can be considered as a link between the participants’ university studies and the entry into professional life.

Franz Schubert und die Musik der Moderne is associated with the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) - a prestigious institution that represents selected classical music competitions, and is also member of the Alink-Argerich Foundation (AAF).
