Bristol Translates 2024

Entry deadline: 31 March 2024

The Bristol Summer School 2024 will take place online from 1-5 July 2024.

Aimed at practising translators at any stage of their career and at language enthusiasts who want to explore the world of literary translation, Bristol Translates offers the opportunity to work with leading professional translators to translate texts across different literary genres.

New this year: in addition to workshops for those translating into English, workshops for translators working out of English are offered as well.

The tutor leading the German workshop out of English is Waltraud Kolb. Waltraub is Assistant Professor of Literary Translation at the Centre for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna.

Bristol Translates summer school takes place entirely online, making it accessible to participants around the world. Workshop groups are limited to a maximum of 12 students. The programme features language-specific translation workshops, both into and out of English, as well as hands-on sessions about various aspects of today’s translation sector, industry talks and professional and networking sessions.

In addition to literary translators themselves, Bristol Translates speakers include publishers, agents, editors, researchers and writers. Participants have had the opportunity to pitch their project to decision-makers in publishing, and take part in exclusive competitions.

The deadline for the discounted early bird fee is 31 March 2024.

Bursaries, including the Austrian Cultural Forum bursary, are available.
