Private View Friday 23 September, 6:30pm
In conjunction with the V&A's Digital Design Weekend the ACF London will host a special Ars Electronica presentation featuring Austrian artists Verena Mayrhofer and Dawid Liftinger over the weekend 24 - 25 September.
Verena Mayrhofer's audio installation Draw:er//16 looks like a typical Austrian vintage spice rack. Verena plays with this nostalgia and ideas of patriotism, nationality and national stereotypes. Visitors are invited to open a drawer and listen to what people from around the world think of Austria. In a recent addition she added interviews with teenage asylum seekers housed in Linz, Austria. These interviews differe from the others in that she has asked the participants less about stereotypes and more about what they expected before they arrived and what kind of suprises they have experienced regarding Austria and Austrians since their arrival.
Flashlightinstallation #1 is an audiovisual installation which explores electronic flashes as an artistic medium. Dawid Liftinger's installation is designed to stimulate the visual senses. Experiencing this space can possibly trigger color visions, can influence the sense of balance and may create a feeling of dizziness. Inspired by light artists of the 1960s such as Dan Flavin and the more recent sound and light art in in Asia, Liftinger focuses on electronic flashes recycled from old disposable cameras.
*Cautions is advised, the installation can potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy.
The ACF London will be open from 10:30am - 5pm Saturday & Sunday.
*Bookings are for the private view only. Admission during the weekend is free to all.
