Evening Concert: Veles Ensemble - 'Egon Wellesz Chamber Music' CD Presentation

  • Thu 28 Sep 2023
  • 7:00PM

We are delighted to welcome the London based Veles Ensemble for an evening recital at the ACF, presenting its brand new recording of music by Egon Wellesz.

The CD, released by Toccata Classics earlier this year, was critically acclaimed by the Guardian and BBC Music Magazine.

The ensemble will perform Egon Wellesz' String Trio Op. 86 and a selection of Wellesz' 'Vier Stücke' Op. 105. The performance will also include music by rarely performed 20th century composers Józef Koffler and Leo Weiner.

The evening will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with the musicians as well as Martin Anderson, founder of Toccata Classics.

**Please note: In case this event is sold out, please e-mail office@acflondon.org to join our waiting list. If more tickets become available, you will be notified.**

The Veles Ensemble is a classical string trio based in London, UK, bringing the classics to life and onto the concert stage, but also exploring rarely heard masterpieces. A special focus of the ensemble is promoting new compositions and contemporary music: the ensemble’s newest CD featuring chamber music by 20th century composer and Schönberg student Egon Wellesz was released on the Toccata Classics label in early 2023.

The CD was selected as one of the Guardian's Picks of the Week and earned a four-star review from BBC Music Magazine, commending the Veles Ensemble for their 'exceptional sensitivity'. It was also featured on Austrian Radio ORF, where the ensemble's 'sensitivity and virtuosity' were highly praised.

Their debut CD with chamber music by British composer Steve Elcock was released on Toccata Classics in December 2018 and was acclaimed for the ensemble's 'marvelous performances' by the Gramophone magazine.

Recent performances have taken the Veles Ensemble to festivals and concerts around the UK and Europe, including France, Slovakia and Scotland, and the ensemble has performed live on BBC Radio3’s In Tune.
