Für das Kind in Norfolk

  • 19 Jan 2022 — 29 Jan 2022

We are delighted to announce that the exhibition Für das Kind / For the Child will be travelling to Norfolk in early 2022. To mark Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January, Wells Maltings will be hosting this special photographic exhibition by artists Rosie Potter and Patricia Ayre, exhibiting belongings of the children displaced during the Kindertransport evacuation.

In 1938 and 1939, around 10,000 children, mainly Jewish, were evacuated from Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia to Britain. Previously exhibited in London, Prague, Vienna and the Mauthausen concentration camp, Potter and Ayre asked survivors to share the personal belongings that accompanied them as children on the Kindertransport.

Working with the president of the Norwich synagogue, the Association of Jewish Refugees and local contacts, the exhibition will have a special focus on local stories of Kindertransport. These include the remarkable story of the Kindertransport boy who ended up as Sheriff of Norwich, and the equally heart-stirring work of the foster families in Norfolk.

Information on all events, and the exhibition, are available here: https://www.wellsmaltings.org.uk/events/holocaust-memorial-events-pass/
