IAGMR Virtual Conference: Revisiting Austrian and German Music

The Institute of Austrian and German Music Research (IAGMR) in the Department of Music and Media at the University of Surrey welcomes you to their inaugural conference Revisiting Austrian and German Music: from the ‘Spring of Nations’ to the Cold War.

This virtual conference is designed to give opportunities to rethink, revise and renew understanding of Austrian and German music of the 19th and 20th centuries. The conference aims to response to a variety of papers and panels addressing topics such as Issues of national, political and personal identity, music criticism, and alternative models for understanding historical, cultural and musical traditions.

The three keynote speakers include Mark Berry, Caroline Kita and Nick Attfield. Together with lecture- recitalist Anna Scott, they will offer a renewed insight and debate in topics of revolution, politicization and national ethnic identity in and through music, that are central touchstones for the reconceptualizing mission of the IAMGR.
